Autumn on the Ruidoso — acrylic on 16 x 20 inch white canvas, 2018

My sister-in-law came to visit us in Oro Valley and said she expected to see paintings covering my walls. I had to explain that most of them were gone — given away to friends and family over the years. And honestly, I’d slowed way down. A business had taken most of my time and attention for a long stretch.

Her comment stayed with me.

This painting came out of that. I went back — not physically, but in memory — to the years I spent in southern New Mexico after leaving the Air Force. The Rio Ruidoso south of town. The trout streams running through ranch land. The way autumn comes down off the mountains and changes everything slowly.

Acrylic on white canvas. Painted from memory, not reference. Just what that country felt like when it mattered.

The original is going to my grandson — continuing a tradition I’ve had since the beginning.

Prints are available in a range of sizes and formats on Fine Art America.
